This paper describes the MEDA instrument purpose and its different subsystems, to focus in the proposed data management architecture (hardware and software) both, on Mars and on Earth, allowing the MEDA sensors data acquisition, storage, processing and transmission. Mission planning and operations are based on the so-called Observation Tables that will be also described to show how the instrument is able to operate completely autonomous during the mission (i.e. even when the rover computers are off) and how is still flexible enough to accommodate additional observation opportunities that may appears during the mission, e.g. in case of special aeras of interest, when there is availability of extra power, unused communication bandwidth, etc.
