Session 2b: Autonomy & Autonomous Systems

Robotics and energy harvesting with colloidalautonomous systems

Alessandro Chiolerio

Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (Italy)

Date: September 29, 17:45 - 18:15
Room: Sala 3M

Organic, inorganic or hybrid liquid devices, kept in a fixed volume by surface tension or by a confining membrane that protects them from a harsh planetary environment, in a biologically inspired vision would change shape according to a specific external command or by means of an internal adaptation, and provide a solution for innovative space exploration applications in extreme or otherwise challenging environments, such as harsh environments in terrestrial applications. This talk provides an initial assessment of existing capabilities that can be leveraged to pursue the topic of “Smart Fluid Systems” or “Colloidal Autonomous Systems”.
