The IT systems devoted to space applications must meet a number of requirements and withstand the harsh conditions in which the equipment will operate. Factors such as vacuum, radiation, temperature cycles,…, etc., have to be considered in the early project stages to take proper decisions at component level. The challenges in the space sector and the introduction of the concept of “New Space: megaconstellations, cubesats, …”, etc., push the component policy to new limits , increasing the systems possibilities: using COTS, new packaging and assembly techniques,…., for which new validation and test approaches must be implemented to get the confidence level demanded by the application.
